Shortly after the independence of Bangladesh, Late Mr Khan Md. Abdul Momen who was a proficient and reputed Advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh founded Khan Md. Abdul Momen & Associates. Late Mr Khan Md. Abdul Momen commenced his legal practice in the year 1960.
The chambers have, till date, borne a glorious history of over 40 years of legal practice in Bangladesh. The practice that started from one person and one single room has now turned into a law firm of more than 20 lawyers and paralegals with offices in Dhaka and Chittagong. We provide local legal expertise to clients at home and abroad.
After Late Mr Khan’s demise in 1987, his son Mr Ashraful Islam Khan, who was enrolled as an Advocate in 1984, succeeded him and took over Khan Md. Abdul Momen & Associates and renamed it as Khan & Co. in partnership with Mr. Omar Faruque Chowdhury, being enrolled as an Advocate in 1982. In 1984, Mr Ashraful Islam Khan joined the Judiciary of Bangladesh as an Assistant Judge. In his absence, Khan & Co. was led by Mr Chowdhury who concentrated his practice mostly in Chattogram, the commercial hub and port city of Bangladesh.
In 2000, Mr Chowdhury expanded the practice of the chambers and had set up an office in Mohammedpur, Dhaka. In 2011, Ms Fatima Jahangir Chowdhury andMr Arefin Ashraf Khan joined Khan & Co. as a Junior Partners. Ms Chowdhury and Mr Khan both successfully completed their LL.B (Hons.) from University of London, UK followed by Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) from Northumbria University, UK. They were called by the Hon’ble Society of Lincoln’s Inn to the Bar of England and Wales.
Having worked in international law firms, the Attorney-General’s Office and the embassy of the United States of America as legal counsel, Ms Chowdhury revamped the chambers with her own set of experience and skill base.Mr Khan, on the other hand, has worked with renowned law firms of Bangladesh, namely Amir & Amir (led by Barrister Amirul Islam, Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh) and Akhter Imam & Associates (led by Barrister Akhtar Imam, Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh)as an Associate and Senior Associate respectively.
In 2013, Mr Anam Hossain & Ms Homayra Faizah Shifa joined Khan & Co. as external counsels. Both Mr Hossain and Ms Homayra completed their LL.B (Hons.) from the University of London, UK and were called by the Hon’ble Society of Lincoln’s Inn to the Bar of England and Wales. Mr Hossain completed his Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) from the City Law School, UK and Ms Homayra completed her Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) from Northumbria University, UK.
Mr Hossain has worked as an Associate in an international law firm, namely Fox Mandal (FM) Associates,advising local and foreign clients on the applicability of various laws of Bangladesh. Subsequently, Mr Hossain joined as a Senior Associate in Mustafizur Rahman Khan & Associates (led by Barrister Mustafizur Rahman Khan), a leading litigation law firm of Bangladesh. Ms Shifa, on the other hand, worked as an Associate in leading law firms of Bangladesh, namely Vertex Chambers, Legal Counsel and Akhter Imam and Associates. She also worked as a Senior Legal Officer in Bkash, the first and the leading mobile financial service provider in Bangladesh.
In 2015, Mr Arefin Ashraf Khan, Ms Fatima Jahangir Chowdhury, Mr Anam Hossain and Ms Homayra Faizah Shifa came together as Partners, rebranded Khan & Co. and renamed it as Stellar Chambers.
